Members of the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan want to amend the constitution in hopes of settling all pending and future enrollment issues.
The Anishinabe Voice Forum group wants the constitution to recognize a 1939 list of tribal members as the base roll. This particular roll, drawn up after the Indian Reorganization Act, is not currently listed.
The Forum also wants siblings of enrolled members to be admitted. Challenges to a particular enrollment must be made within six months or the decision is final.
"After six months, you cannot be disenrolled," Ron Douglas told The Mt. Pleasant Morning Sun.
The Forum is meeting Saturday afternoon to discuss the proposal.
