A member of the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan is suing in tribal court to ensure his grandchildren are enrolled.
Benjamin Willis Sr. is considered full-blood and his son is half-blood. Both men are enrolled but Willis says his grandchildren, who should be one-quarter blood, are being denied membership.
According to The Morning Sun, each tribal member receives an estimated $70,000 in per capita payments per year.
