Members of the Penobscot Nation of Maine elected a new chief on Saturday.
Kirk E. Francis Sr., 35, defeated former chief Barry Dana by 201 votes. Outgoing chief James Sappier didn't run for family reasons.
Francis ran on a campaign of self-sufficiency. He has served three terms on the council. His father, Miles E. Francis Sr., served 16 consecutive years on the council.
