The Maine Pharmacy Association and Ontario Pharmacists Association criticized a plan to designate the Penobscot Nation as a drug importer.
The two groups said the plan poses a safety risk to consumers. They claim there will be no regulation of drugs imported into Maine.
The Penobscot Nation is planning to open a statewide pharmacy in May to provide cheap prescription drugs. The initiative was advanced by Gov. John Baldacci (D).
