This year's princess of the He Sapa Wacipi, or Black Hills Pow Wow, will wear a newly designed crown.
Eleanor Clairmont, a porcupine quill artist from the Rosebud Sioux Reservation, created the crown. It features seven tipis, bear tracks to represent sacred Bear Butte and and eagle.
The He Sapa Win princess will be crowned during the October 6-8 powwow at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City, South Dakota. The outgoing princess is Shere Wright, 25, a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe.
