The Oneida Nation of Wisconsin hopes to place than 3,000 acres of ancestral land in trust.

The land is located in Brown County, where the tribe already has 1,900 acres in trust. According to The Green Bay Press Gazette , the properties generated $877,377 in property taxes in 2005.

Overall, the tribe has 17,000 acres of its original 65,000-acre reservation in trust. The tribe's former legal counsel is Carl Artman, who has been nominated by President Bush to head the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
