Abramoff Scandal
GOP cartoon features Saginaw Chippewa 'school'

The National Republican Senatorial Committee has posted a cartoon on a new web site [http://www.thanksdebbie.com] that criticizes Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Michigan) for the $3 million she sought for the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe.

But neither the cartoon, nor the GOP's "fact sheet" [Link] mention the involvement of Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Montana). As chairman of the Senate Interior Appropriations subcommittee, Burns played a critical role in securing the earmark for the tribe, one of Jack Abramoff's clients.

"Debbie Stabenow has actively sought federal dollars for the Saginaw Chippewa tribe, one of the wealthiest and most politically active tribes in the nation. Theyre so active and so wealthy, they even had a $1.4 million mansion in Washingtons embassy row from which they ran their lobbying activities," the GOP says.

The GOP also doesn't mention that the tribe returned the appropriation.
