A hearing to consider the impeachment of Oglala Sioux Tribe President Cecelia Fire Thunder was delayed for a second time on Monday amid a crowd of shouting tribal members, The Rapid City Journal reports.
The hearing will be held December 30. Tribal members objected when the council initially proposed to hold it on December 29, the anniversary of the Wounded Knee massacre. Some also objected when the council sought to move the hearing to Kyle rather than Pine Ridge.
The delay was requested by William Birdnecklace Tate, a former tribal employee who filed the complaint against Fire Thunder. He accuses her of mismanaging the tribe, of being disrespectful to elders and of not being properly enrolled.
