Poorest county in U.S. is home to reservation


The poorest county in the United States is home to the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation, the U.S. Census Bureau reported on Tuesday.

The median income in Buffalo County, South Dakota, was $17,000, the lowest in the country.

The third lowest income was found in Ziebach County, home to parts of the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation. The median was $17,753.

Another South Dakota county made the top 20 list of lowest incomes. The median income in Todd County, home to the Rosebud Sioux Reservation, was $207,780

Corson County, home to parts of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, was ranked 55 with a median income of $22,683. Shanon County, home to the Pine Ridge Reservation, came in at 56 with a median income of $22,789.
