The president of Florida State University said he would consider taking legal action to protect the school's "Seminoles" mascot.
FSU justifies its use of Indian imagery by citing its relationship with the Seminole Tribe, whose council passed a resolution on June 17 to support the mascot. Leaders of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, however, oppose it.
The NCAA Executive Committee is meeting today to consider its policy on Indian mascots. More than 30 schools submitted reports to explain their use of Indian themes, imagery and symbols. An outright ban is not on the table.
