Navajo Nation president vetoes money for chapters

Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. vetoed legislation that would have allowed the 110 Navajo chapters to use $7.2 million as they see fit.

Shirley said the money was originally set aside for drought emergencies. He said the chapters should use it for emergency purposes and that drought conditions still exist on the reservation.

An override of the veto is possible.
