Local opponents of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians called in author Jeff Benedict to criticize the tribe's pending land-into-trust request
The tribe gained approval to acquire seven acres for a museum and retail purposes. Another application for five acres is pending.
Opponents say the tribe shouldn't be allowed to expand its reservation. Benedict, who has tried to stop a Connecticut tribe from acquiring trust lands, said the Chumash will only try to expand their casino.
