The Colville Confederated Tribes of Washington received $13.5 million under a settlement with the Douglas County Public Utility District.
The payment is compensation for land the tribe lost to the utility's Wells Dam. The tribe has agreed to support relicensing of the dam in 2012.
Under the settlement, the tribe will receive quarterly payments for 4.5 percent of the power produced and sold by the dam. The payment is estimated at $4.5 million annually.
The tribe also received 460 acres.
