The United South and Eastern Tribes kicked off its annual meeting on Monday with an apology to the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut.
USET President Keller George apologized for not contacting the Mohegans before making testimony that criticized the tribe's casino deal with non-Indian investors.
The testimony also criticized the Mohegan tribe's effort to help a Wisconsin tribe open a casino in New York.
The Mohegan Tribe subsequently voted to withdraw from USET. But the tribe has decided to stay involved.
USET is meeting all week on the Mashantucket Pequot Reservation.
