The United South and Eastern Tribes (USET) will conduct a survey next year on the creation of the first tribal college in the East.
The study will take place from January to July to determine where the college might be located, how it will be funded and what will be its focus. A final report is due September 2005.
The study is being overseen by the New England Board of Higher Education. Tribes in the region have low rates of college graduates, far below the national average.
