The Seattle Times concludes its special report on the discovery of a major village of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe of Washington.

Part 4 examines how the discovery of more than 330 remains, while painful, has helped the tribe understand its history and culture. The thousands of artifacts at the site, many in excellent condition, have given tribal members a glimpse of how their ancestors lived.

"The ancestors themselves rose up and spoke," said Chairwoman Frances Charles.

The state halted work on the site but its future is uncertain. Local officials and business leaders are still trying to lobby to restart construction while the tribe hopes the village can be preserved and all the remains reburied there.
