More than 100 people reportedly attended a forum on Saturday to discuss tribal disenrollments occuring occurring the United States.
"There needs to be a healing in Indian country and we're going to start it,'' forum organizer John Gomez Jr., a former member of the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians, was quoted as saying. ''From this day forward we're not going to play the victim any more.''
Ousted tribal members said they have little recourse to challenge their removals. So they have filed lawsuits and are lobbying Congress in hopes of addressing what they say is an abuse of triabl sovereignty.
