The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians has filed a second land-into-trust application in Santa Barbara County.

The tribe is asking the Bureau of Indian Affairs to acquire less than six acres in trust. The land is contiguous to some of the tribe's existing properties, including a 6.9-acre parcel across from the casino that will be used for a cultural museum.

The BIA approved that request but four groups have appealed. The tribe and Santa Barbara County, however, have agreed to work together instead of fighting.
