About 200 University of Colorado faculty signed a newspaper ad calling for an end to the investigation of controversial professor Ward Churchill.
The CU board of regents is reviewing Churchill's record in light of numerous claims of academic and other fraud. The probe started when an old Churchill essay linking some of the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks to Nazis was publicized.
In the ad, the faculty question the investigation, saying Churchill was never the subject of a formal complain. Some say they are troubled by Churchill's comments and history but say the review is unwarranted.
The CU board doesn't plan to end the review and is considering a buyout of Churchill's tenured professorship. Churchill's lawyer says any settlement would have to be large.
