Eastern Band in tuition deal with university

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is reaching a deal with the University of Tennessee at Knoxville to allow tribal members to pay in-state tuition.

The deal is still being finalized. In exchange for reduced tuition, the Eastern Band will provide archaeological services to the university.

Principal Chief Michell Hicks said the tribe plans to make similar deals with other state schools in Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina.
