Members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians are going to the polls today to elect the tribal council.
All 12 seats are up for grabs. All but one incumbent, Bob Blankenship, is seeking re-election.
The tribe has a budget of $174 million, The Asheville Citizen-Times reports. Through a successful gaming operation, which generates more then $155 million per year in profits, the tribe has been able to expand housing, education and other services.
