South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds (R) has proposed an extradition compact with the Oglala Sioux Tribe.
If approved, the compact would be the second of its kind in the state. The Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe and the state have an extradition compact, The Rapid City Journal reported.
The state wants the compact in order to take custody of two tribal members who have been charged with a crime that occurred off the reservation. Oglala Sioux President Cecilia Fire Thunder said she wouldn't turn the suspects over to the state without a formal extradition agreement.
