Minnesota Chippewa Tribe to vote on constitution

Members of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe will vote on November 22 on two proposed amendments to the constitution.

The first proposed amendment would require candidates running for office to live on the reservation of their tribe for one year before the election. The second would bar convicted felons from running for office.

The Fond du Lac, Bois Forte, Grand Portage, Mille Lacs, Leech Lake and White Earth bands make up the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe. Each is a separate government with its own federal recognition.
