Two Indian boys who were suspended for having long hair lost an appeal to be readmitted to their middle school in Texas.

Resaca Middle School Principal Stephen Rosales rejected the appeal from Skyler and Rodney Burns. The boys are part Chickasaw but the principal said Chickasaw males don't wear their hair long. He based the decision, in part, by reviewing the Chickasaw Nation website [Link], The Brownsville Herald reported.

Their mother, Deborah Burns, says the decision is unfair. She plans to take the case up with the school district. She says the school is discriminating against Native Americans.

Skyler, 12, and Rodney, 14, were placed on in-school suspension on the second day of classes. They have since been pulled out of school to be home-schooled. The Burns are originally from Oklahoma but recently moved to Texas.
