Native prisoner claims punishment for long hair
Thursday, April 1, 2004

A Native prisoner in California filed a federal lawsuit claiming he lost privileges for refusing to cut his hair.

Billy Soza Warsoldier, 55, won't follow a grooming policy that restricts hair length in male inmates to 3 inches. He says he won't cut his hair for cultural and spiritual reasons.

Warsoldier is Cahuilla. He is serving 19 months for drunken driving at a state correctional facility.
