BIA approves water bottling plant for La Jolla Band

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has given its approval for the La Jolla Band of Luiseno Indians to open a water bottling plant.

The BIA issued a finding of significant impact for the project and declined to require a full environmental impact study. The decision allows the tribe to acquire 10 acres in trust adjacent to the reservation.

The tribe is facing opposition from local residents who fear the plant will reduce the water supply, create more traffic and threaten fire fighting efforts.
