California tribe wants land for water bottling plant

The La Jolla Band of Luiseno Indians is seeking federal approval to add 10 acres to its reservation for a water bottling plant.

The project is currently undergoing a review by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Public comments are being accepted on an environmental assessment until April 11.

The tribe hopes the plant will generate revenues but neighbors are concerned about the impact on their water supply. A retired state judge who currently owns the land failed to get approval from the county for a similar project.
