Native leader stripped of Order of Canada membership

Ahenakew, 71, is only the second person in history to be removed from the prestigious organization. He has vowed not to return his membership pin.

On July 8, a judge in Saskatchewan ruled that Ahenakew violated the province's hate crimes law. The judge said Ahenakew willfully promoted hatred against Jewish people by referring to them as a "disease" and praising the Holocaust.

Ahenakew says he will appeal the guilty verdict.
