Hate crimes charges mulled against tribal leader

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26, 2003 Prosecutors in Saskatchewan, Canada, are weighing whether to charge a tribal leader for anti-Semitic comments he made. David Ahenakew, a former head of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, said the genocide of Jewish people during the Holocaust was justified. His remarks prompted a wide public outcry and a Royal Canadian Mounted Police hate crimes investigation.
