WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26, 2003

Prosecutors in Saskatchewan, Canada, are weighing whether to charge a tribal leader for anti-Semitic comments he made.

David Ahenakew, a former head of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, said the genocide of Jewish people during the Holocaust was justified. His remarks prompted a wide public outcry and a Royal Canadian Mounted Police hate crimes investigation.

That investigation is complete but authorities are still trying to determine whether Ahenakew can be charged.
