A Native leader who praised Adolf Hitler for the Holocaust and accused Jewish people of controlling the media is awaiting a verdict on hate crimes charges.
David Ahenakew, 71, is a former chief of the Assembly of First Nations and former head of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations. He has been asked to give up his membership in the prestigious Order of Canada, according to news reports.
The verdict is expected to be delivered July 8. Ahenakew faces a maximum of six months in jail or a $2,000 fine.
