Mark Trahant: History repeats itself with election

"Presidential elections are about choices over the debatable questions about war, taxes, how the federal government spends and borrows money and what type of judges will be seated.

Precisely because of those critical issues, and the stark differences they present, this election is the most important ever. And, perhaps, the most nasty.

Just think about what could happen if ...

The election outcome could undermine America's national character, even its religious base. Some say the wrong ballot selection means America will surrender its own security and sovereignty. One candidate favored the wealthy, making decisions almost as a monarch. The other candidate, it is said, ought to be considered 'the choice of France.'"
