A group of non-Indian water users in northern New Mexico is seeking a way out of a proposed settlement in a long-running tribal water rights case.
The Pojoaque Basin Water Alliance says residents haven't been properly informed of the proposed deal that would require them to give up their water wells for a regional system.
The group says 1,000 of 3,000 people have signed a petition against the deal.
The long-running Aamodt suit, named for the first defendant, involves the water rights of the pueblos of Pojoaque, Tesuque, Namb and San Ildefonso. The tribes would give up their
right to assert priority over other users.
