Non-Indians wary of settlement to water rights case
Wednesday, February 18, 2004
Some non-Indians in northern New Mexico are wary of a proposed settlement to the long-running water rights case. Under the settlement, non-Indians would have to give up their wells and tribes would transfer their water rights to a centralized authority. Federal money would be provided to create a regional water system. The Pueblos of Pojoaque, Nambe Tesuque and San Ildefonso are affected by the case. More than 2,000 individual claims are involved. The Aamodt case is named after the first defendant. Get the Story:
