The Navajo Nation will be truly sovereign when the tribe is independent, President Joe Shirley Jr. says.
Shirley says Navajos are already wealthy because they have sovereignty. But in hopes of bringing economic independence to the largest tribe in the country, Shirley is touting a $500 million bond proposal.
He says the deal could bring stores like Wal-Mart and Home Depot to the reservation.
He says creation of jobs and a tax base will help the tribe become more independent.
