Navajo Nation seeks $500M to finance development

The Navajo Nation is seeking $500 million in bond financing for new development across the reservation. The tribe would build seven $38 million criminal justice complexes, shopping centers and other infrastructure. President Joe Shirley Jr. believes he is close to obtaining the financing. The tribe, which has the largest land-base in the country, could definitely benefit from new jail space, law enforcement officials say. Currently, the reservation has 108 beds to detain offenders.
