Non-Indians in northern New Mexico voiced their opposition to a settlement in a long-running water rights case involving four tribes.
Non-Indian water users are objecting to provisions that call for them to give up their wells. The settlement would create a regional water system instead for non-Indians and the the pueblos of Pojoaque, Tesuque, Namb and San Ildefonso.
The tribes have senior water rights in the region. The Aamodt case, named for the first defendant, has been in the courts for more than 30 years.
