ilani on Facebook: On track for a Spring 2017 opening
The Cowlitz Tribe announced additional executives at its fast-rising casino in Washington. Al Muma is serving as vice president of human resources for the ilani Casino Resort, The Columbian reported. Jeffrey Walker is the vice president for gaming, the paper said. The tribe broke ground at the beginning of this year and a grand opening has already been scheduled for April 17, 2017. The casino is located on a 152-acre property that was placed in trust by the Bureau of Indian Affairs after a lengthy review process that stretched out over a decade. Casino opponents fought the acquisition but the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals sided with the BIA in a major decision on July 29. The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde in neighboring Oregon plan to take the case to the U.S. Supreme Court although a formal request hasn't been filed as of Thursday morning.
