The Kings Mountain Awareness Group is asking officials in North Carolina to rescind letters of support for the proposed Catawba Nation casino.

The group claims the $600 million casino will generate crime and traffic in Cleveland County. But the city of Kings Mountain and the county are welcoming the project as a way to generate jobs and stimulate the economy.

Letters of support have been sent to the Bureau of Indian Affairs as part of the tribe's land-into-trust application. The tribe argues the acquisition of the 16-acre site is mandatory under the Catawba Indian Tribe of South Carolina Land Claims Settlement Act.
