Auburn Community doesn't fear new Graton Rancheria casino

The United Auburn Indian Community isn't worried about a new casino from the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, a spokesperson said.

The Auburn Community operates the Thunder Valley Casino near Sacramento. The $800 million Graton Resort and Casino will be closer to San Francisco, more than 100 miles away.

“We view competition as being good,” Auburn spokesperson Doug Elmets told The Sacramento Business Journal. “We don’t expect the Graton Casino to have any significant effect on Thunder Valley.”

The Auburn Community is suing in federal court to block an off-reservation casino for the Enterprise Rancheria. The Enterprise site is about 25 miles from the Auburn casino.

The Graton casino will open November 5.
