A $400,000 non-refundable application fee for a commercial casino in southeastern Massachusetts is due September 30, State House News Service reports. H.3702, the Massachusetts Expanded Gaming Act, reserved the southeastern casino for "a federally recognized tribe." But due to hurdles facing the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission decided to accept bids from non-Indian developers. So far, only K.G. Urban Enterprises has said it will bid on the casino. “There are other people talking about it, but we don’t know yet," Stephen Crosby, the chair of the commission, told reporters, State House News Service reported. The commission will be awarding licenses for two casinos in other regions in early 2014. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut is bidding on the eastern part of the state. The Mohegan Tribe, also of Connecticut, and Hard Rock International, which is owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, are among the bidders for the western region. Get the Story:
