Lac du Flambeau Band revives plan for off-reservation casino
Thursday, September 20, 2012
The
Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians
of Wisconsin has revived plans for an off-reservation casino.
Tribal members voted 217-141 in favor of a casino in Shullsburg. The 92-acre site is about 300 miles from tribal headquarters.
The Bush administration rejected the casino in January 2008 under a
guidance memo
that said Shullsburg was too far from the reservation to benefit tribal members. The Obama administration rescinded the memo.
The tribe will resubmit an application to the
Bureau of Indian Affairs
.
