Rep. Sullivan, Kialegee casino foe, loses Republican nomination

Rep. John Sullivan (R-Oklahoma) won't be able to fight the Kialegee Tribal Town from the halls of Congress much longer.

Sullivan lost the Republican nomination for Oklahoma's First Congressional district to newcomer Jim Bridenstine. Sullivan has served five terms in the House.

As part of his campaign against the Kialegees, Sullivan introduced an anti-Indian bill, H.R.4033, the Giving Local Communities a Voice in Tribal Gaming Act. The measure gives local governments the ability to veto Class III gaming facilities even if the state has agreed to a Class III gaming compact.

The bill has yet to receive a hearing and now that Sullivan is on his way out of Capitol Hill, it's unlikely to move much further during the remainder of the 112th Congress.
