With new compact, Eastern Cherokees look at another casino
Friday, June 8, 2012
The
Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians
can operate up to three Class III facilities under its new gaming compact and Chief Michell Hicks said the tribe is looking at opening a casino in Cherokee County.
The tribe previously planned a Class II facility in the county. But the new compact will bring more lucrative games, including live card dealers.
"Cherokee County is our first [priority] on expansion," Hicks told The Cherokee Scout.
The tribe's compact has been sent to the
Bureau of Indian Affairs
for review.
