A Class III gaming compact for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians won final legislative approval on Wednesday and was immediately signed into law by North Carolina Gov. Bev Perdue (D).
The deal allows the tribe to add live card dealers to the Harrah’s Cherokee Casino and Resort. In exchange, the tribe will share a percentage of revenues -- ranging from 4 percent to 8 percent -- with the state over the next 30 years.
The compact now goes to the Bureau of Indian Affairs. If approved within 45 days, the tribe could debut live dealers during the July 4 holiday weekend.
