Fond du Lac Band wins another round in gaming feud with city

The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians has won another round of litigation in its gaming dispute with Duluth, Minnesota.

The tribe filed a land-into-trust application with the Bureau of Indian Affairs for a property next to the Fond-du-Luth Casino. The city said the move violated a gaming agreement between the two parties.

A judge, however, dismissed the lawsuit and said it was premature. The BIA has yet to make a decision on the application.

“This is the fourth occasion in the past several months where the band has prevailed,” Chairwoman Karen Diver told The Duluth News.
