City weighs options in gaming dispute with Fond du Lac Band

The city of Duluth, Minnesota, is weighing its options after the Obama administration canceled a gaming deal with the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.

Since 1994, the city has received 19 percent of gross revenues from the Fond-du-Luth Casino. But the National Indian Gaming Commission and the Bureau of Indian Affairs said the arrangement was illegal.

The city might challenge the cancellation of the agreement in court, Mayor Don Ness said.
