After gaining federal recognition, the Shinnecock Nation announced an ambitious plan to build three casinos in New York but nothing concrete has happened since October 2010.
The tribe has been eyeing two sites for casinos. But a deal for one site fell through and plans for the second site appear to have lost local support.
"It's alarming," a local lawmaker told Newsday. "They have friends out there who want them to succeed, but the issue has gone quiet."
The tribe blames lack of progress on Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), who refuses to sit down and discuss gaming issues.
But internal squabbles appear to have taken their toll -- two top leaders have been removed from the board of trustees and two gaming authority members were also removed from their posts.
