The Eastern Band of Cherokee
Indians and North Carolina Gov. Bev Perdue (D) will officially open live table games at the Harrah’s
Cherokee Casino and Resort today.
The tribe negotiated a 30-year Class III gaming compact that authorized live dealers.
Blackjack, craps and roulette games are already up and running at the casino.
"This milestone allows the Eastern Band to continue to share resources from the casino with the people of western North Carolina who have been hit hard economically in recent years as well as to help support school systems around the state," Chief Michell Hicks said in a press release.
Hicks will welcome Perdue to the casino at 2:30pm this afternoon.
