United Keetoowah Band prepares to shutter casino on July 30

The United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma is prepared to close its casino at midnight on July 30.

The tribe agreed to the deadline as part of a settlement with the state. Only a decision by the Bureau of Indian Affairs can save the Keetoowah Cherokee Casino.

"Right now, no one knows what the federal government's decision is or will be," Neal Leader, senior assistant Oklahoma attorney general, told The Tulsa World.

The tribe is holding a press conference today to discuss its plans, the paper said.
