The Chickasaw Nation and its gaming enterprise are facing a second public relations mess in Oklahoma City.
Global Gaming, the tribe's gaming subsidiary, has been linked to a bid to take over operations at the Oklahoma City Zoo Amphitheatre.Previously sealed records obtained by The Oklahoman show that the tribe intends to promote its gaming enterprise at the facility through 3Horse Productions, a company run by the tribe's former marketing director.
The Oklahoma City Zoological Trust was set to approve the agreement with 3Horse Productions at a meeting tomorrow. But action was delayed after The Oklahoman questioned whether state open meetings laws were being followed.
The tribe faced criticism last month after purchasing the naming rights to a baseball stadium in Oklahoma City.
The facility was to be called the "Newcastle Casino Field" -- after one of the tribe's gaming facilities, located about 20 miles away in Newcastle.
Protests led the tribe to agree to a different name for the stadium -- the "Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark." But the tribe will still promote its casino under the deal.
